Fishers AgriPark providing fresh produce to the Indianapolis Zoo

In 2024, Mayor Fadness, in coordination with the Indianapolis Zoo, launched a pilot program and partnership to provide fresh produce to feed certain animals at the zoo. The program includes produce planted, grown, and harvested at the Fishers AgriPark, one of the country’s largest urban farms.

During the pilot program, the Fishers AgriPark has delivered freshly harvested produce to the zoo’s nutrition staff on a weekly basis.

Growing, distribution, and animal care

During our 2025 growing season, the partnership has already and will continue to result in thousands of pounds of produce grown locally in Fishers to support the Indianapolis Zoo.

In coordination with staff at the zoo, farmers and staff at the AgriPark harvest kale and collard greens on a weekly basis. The animals have been receiving these greens since spring 2025.

Many of the Indianapolis Zoo’s animals – including chimpanzees, giraffes, kangaroos, and the giant tortoises at one of the zoo’s newest exhibits – benefit from the produce grown on our farm as staple of their diet.
