About Your Tree
Trees being given away at this event are limited to one per household on a first-come, first-served basis.

American Hazelnut (corylus americana)
The American Hazelnut is a smaller, shrub-like tree, native to the east and central United States. This plant grows 8 to 16 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet in diameter at maturity and blooms in early to mid-Spring. It adapts well to a range of soil types but does best in areas that regularly drain well. The American Hazelnut prefers full sun for best growth and development, though it can grow in partial shade, resulting in less plant density and fruit production.

Black Walnut (juglans nigra)
The Black Walnut tree is a deciduous tree in the walnut family and is native to the east and central United States. At maturity, this tree can grow 70 to 150 feet tall, depending on conditions, with a trunk 2 to 8 feet wide, and blooms in late Spring (May through early June). Black Walnut trees can be sensitive to unique soils but grow best in neutral, well-drained soil. These trees should be planted in full sun, receiving at least 6 hours of sunlight each day.

Tree Planting Instructions
Keep It Moist
Keep seedlings in a bucket of water to ensure roots stay moist while planting. Roots can dry out rapidly on hot or windy days.
Dig It
Dig a hole deeper and wider than your seedling’s root system. Then, insert your seedling and fill loosely with soil.
Cover It
Gently firm the soil around your seedling to eliminate air pockets around the roots. Do not stomp.
